Patricia Schultz (travel writer) highlights the Apostle Islands in her global "1,000 Places to See Before You Die: A Traveler's Life List" (2003). These islands are also home to the nation's finest collection of historic lighthouses. Gitche Gumme, the Native American
name for Lake Superior, meaning “Big Water”, is the
largest of the Great Lakes, and contains the biggest surface area
of any freshwater lake in the world. Her presence is everywhere. |
